Date of Last Visit: Friday 28th January 2012 The Location: Bugibba, corner with Fat Harry’s…You cannot miss the green neon light sign! No of Victims: 9 The Damage: EUR 30 each including wine The atmosphere: A strong and spicy smell greets you once you walk in the restaurant, along with a soft touch of Indian music in the background. The decoration is simple and the light is dim. The air temperature was pleasant and warm, though it got a bit stuffy when the restaurant got a bit busy. The Service: The restaurant is owned and run by native Indians, so expect courtesy and superb service at all times. The Menu: There is plenty to choose from on the menu. A large variety of starters, soups, vegetables, tandoori, chicken, lamb, beef, pork dishes and typical Indian sweets to pick from. They also offer two set menus of EUR 15 and EUR 18. The wine selection is good and prices are reasonable. Our Food: To start off with we were served with cumin flavoured Papadums accompanied by three different condiments – chilli, mango chutney and yoghurt & mint. Then we shared a platter of mixed starters which included paneer pakora, chicken tandoori and onion [...]

Date of Last Visit: 17th December 2011 for lunch The Location: Sliema on the Strand, between Black Gold Bar and The Sliema Hotel No of Victims: The Damage: EUR 42 each including tips The atmosphere: Shabby in my opinion…much more could have been done to set up this place. We opted to eat in the one of the two tables that are set outside, which wasn’t bad regardless of the heavy traffic heading towards the commercial part of Sliema. The Service: Ok-ish, due to lack of communication mainly. The Menu: Offers a variety of starters, pasta and rice dishes, meats as well as pizza al metro. Our Food: We asked for an assortment of antipasti, but instead we were presented with a mozzarella salad each which was served with STALE BREAD. To follow we were served with two massive dishes of cozze and vongole. Then we had our mains – many had the gnocchi di patate in a funghi porcini sauce, which tasted very good. I had the tortiglioni in a tomato and ricotta sauce which half way through got a bit boring. The person having the spaghetti with seafood claimed she enjoyed it, unlike the two having the rib-eye of beef. The wine [...]

This restaurant was suggested to me by two friends, whose judgment on food I trust fully. The pizza I was told is amazing. When I visited with a group of friends we all opted for the grill though. Our choices included boneless chicken thighs, grilled calamari and rib-eye. I had the Veal T-bone which was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Our dishes were accompanied by sauces, fries, roasted potatoes and grilled vegetables. We were lucky with the weather and sat in the outside area of the restaurant, though the restaurant also offers seating inside too. Here is my verdict for this restaurant: Service: Exceptionally good Menu: Pizza, Pasta and Grill Food: Good Atmosphere: Pleasant (during the week) Price: EUR 25 per person (including wine, dessert and coffee for some) Wine Selection: Fair Last Visit: 11.10.11 Contact Tel no: +356 2122 2220 http://www.vallettawaterfront.com/content.aspx?id=98783

If I had to name a favourite restaurant right now, it will definitely be La Vela. I have been twice so far, and I must admit that the overall experience on both occasions was very satisfactory. Date of Second Visit: 10/06/2010 for dinner No of Victims: writer and 11 friends Verdict: Thumbs up once again for LA VELA !! The service was again impeccable, food was all served at the same time. The restaurant assistants were well informed on the wine and the food. They know what they are selling without disregarding the customer’s request !! And that’s hard to find on this island. Our table was laid outside and the atmosphere was extremely pleasant. Literally, you forget you are in Msida! Parking is no problem at all ! There is one tiny problem…the owners prefer to recommend the wine, rather than presenting it on a wine list. I personally prefer reading about the wine and the region before choosing the bottle that will complement my food. Having said that, the wine suggested to us, was enjoyed by all. Now let me tempt your appetite with the food we enjoyed that evening…. Starters: A mixture of bruscetta with green and black olive [...]
